Civil Site Supervisors – Foremen and General Foremen

The Site Supervisor provides leadership, schedules, coordinates, supervises and ensures the safety and productivity of crews in the workface who are operating, laboring, and building civil scopes of work. As a key participant in the relationship with the contractor, company and client, the Site Supervisor acts as management liaison and client interface.


  • Supervise and direct Operators & Labourers to ensure construction complies with the drawings and specifications
  • Provide visible leadership and commitment to health and safety
  • Be familiar with and comply with all company guidelines
  • Maintain communication with other personnel on site, as required; assist with daily meetings, record activities in journal
  • Follow all rules, policies, and procedures as per the company health and safety manual and all other applicable legislation
  • Participates in and monitors safety “Tool Box” meetings
  • Expedites and follows up with answers to any technical questions
  • Assessing competency and capability of trades persons; evaluating crew capability, training, coaching to ensure that the crew meets required levels of quality
  • Coordinate construction activities for the project and ensure activities are executed in a safe, healthy, environmentally responsible and efficient manner
  • Organize the work schedule by determining the labor needs, material quantities, equipment requirements, and project controls
  • Ensure activities are completed in accordance with recognized standards and client requirements
  • Be familiar with GCS safety manual, provincial OH&S , and current client/contractor manual
  • Monitor work performance and productivity of Subcontractors to ensure compliance with rules, procedures and safety requirements
  • Supporting job training for apprentices and facilitating mentoring of apprentices by employees
  • Recognizing, addressing and resolving issues/problems among/between crew(s)
  • Identifying needs and deficiencies in the look ahead plan/schedule and communicating these to the appropriate persons
  • Translating general work requirements into a prioritized work plan for each crew
  • Reviewing and adjusting specific work face activities and task schedules to meet established production schedules
  • Reviewing inspection reports and coordinating resolutions to deficiencies
  • Ensure logs or diaries are maintained and up to date
  • Recommending personnel actions such as hiring, promotions and corrective action
  • Overseeing the execution of the work, including quality and production, by ensuring that the crews work to job specifications and follow drawings
  • Extensive knowledge in survey, blue print reading geo-technical questions, and problem solving
  • Ensure operators and laborers are completing task cards, fuel reports, and equipment checklists

  • Ability to be diplomatic when dealing with difficult situations
  • Be punctual, dependable and competent in one’s job
  • Ability to build and foster positive relationships with field personnel, President, clients, subcontractors, and other groups involved in field construction activities
  • Able to work with minimal supervision after initial training period
  • Fast-paced environment, work under pressure, tight deadlines
  • Must show positive leadership at all times


  • High School diploma is an asset
  • Previous management experience an asset
  • Must be able to travel to project site for the duration of the job
  • Ability to assess crew skills, lead the crew and coach and teach new crew members
  • Experience in confined space entry, hot work and provincial OH&S legislation
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in civil works construction
  • Knowledge of Computer programs (MS Word, Excel, Email, Internet) an asset
